About Us

Francilia Schofield - Director & Instructor 

 

Born in Sineku, Dominica, Francilia began piano studies at Kairi School of Music at age 7 with Mrs. Leng Sorhaindo.  While a student at the school, she was twice awarded the Student of the Year trophy for outstanding results at the Royal Schools of Music practical examinations

and completed all levels by the age of 17.  At 19, Francilia received her diploma in piano performing from the Trinity College of Music, London.  

 

While in Dominica, Francilia performed with the Harmony Ensemble and  played flute, and keyboard as a member of the Music Lovers'  Government Band.  She also taught piano at the Kairi School of Music  and recorder at the Convent Prep.

 

Francilia then pursued her Bachelor's Degree in Music at the University of Ottawa, Canada.  Besides her studies, she taught at the Balthazar School of Music and accompanied the En Harmony Women's Choir.  Francilia also discovered a talent for conducting with a women's choir called Womansing. 

 

Over the years Francie played in the Kiwanis Festival Competition and placed 3rd and 2nd in the categories of  Romantic piece, and Sonata.  While in University she was on the University swim team and continues to do fine art including mediums such as  watercolor, pen and ink, acrylics, and oils.  Francilia worked as the organist at the Sierra Vista Lutheran Church for 9 years, and volunteers as accompanist with the  Sierra Vista Community Chorus.

 

Francilia started the non-profit Francie's Youth Piano Competition in 2007 in hopes of inspiring young musicians to work hard and persevere with their studies.

She was awarded the Mayors Arts Award for performer of the year in 2012 for her contribution with music to the community of Sierra Vista and in 2013 Francilia performed with the Sierra Vista Symphony.

Francilia was the vice-president of the Cochise Music Teacher's Association 2017 - 2018, and the current president 2018 -2019.  She has been a member of the Music Teacher's National Association and the Cochise Music Teacher's Association since 2005.

As of 2019, Francilia is a new member of the board of directors for the Sierra Vista Symphony.
